About Michael Lujan

I help companies achieve their strategies in a pretty nuanced and evolving space. In my 30+ years of experience in employee benefits and health insurance sales, I've forged some great relationships and worked closely with teams to execute their plans to grow membership and deliver better health care.

As a broker and general agent, I gained valuable first-hand sales experience that served me well when I was recruited to lead small business sales at Blue Shield of California in Northern California. When the Affordable Care Act became law, I was compelled to help stand up our state health benefit exchange, Covered California. There, I was responsible for recruiting, training and certifying more than 14,000 licensed agents. Agents accounted for more than half of the 2.5 million Californians enrolled, and helped reduce our uninsured rate to a historic low; 7.2% from 17.2%. 

In 2014, I was co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Limelight Health, and served on the Board of Directors through a successful acquisition by FINEOS in 2020. From 2018 to 2020, I lead individual and small group sales for Oscar Health in the West region. During this same period, I served as President of the CA Association of Health Underwriters, and mentor at Stanford's Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, among other board positions. 

I love to connect with forward thinkers and seek opportunities to solve some complex problems. I am energized by the endless opportunities for both startups and mature companies. 

I am currently working on projects to best serve low-income seniors eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. I was recently selected to serve on the CA Department of Insurance Agent Curriculum Board; focused on maintaining and preserving the integrity of our agent training and pre-licensing and continuing education.
